Lewis M. Hagerty
March 1, 1921 - April 14, 2017
Lewis Maris Hagerty, Sr. of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the age of 96. Raised in Kennett Square, PA, son of Josiah and Laura Hagerty. Lewis was a graduate of Kennett Square High School where he was on the track team and was a participant in the Penn Relays. Originally a dairy farmer, he later went on to have a long career as owner of Hollingsworth Realty Company in Middletown, DE. He was a member of the Middletown School Board, Greater Wilmington Board of Realtors, National Association of Real Estate Boards, Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, Middletown Rotary Club and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed going out to eat, traveling, card games, and watching old western movies. His greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, of 65 years, and sister, Irma Connor. He is survived by 3 children, Betty Lou Hatfield of Winchester, VA, Lewis M. Hagerty, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Wilmington, DE, and Lynn Craig and her husband, Melvin, of Middletown, DE; 8 grandchildren, DeAnne, Beth, Lewis III, Sam, Matt, Sara, Allison and Chad; 6 great-grandchildren, Chase, Rylee, Ava, Ella, Carter and Deacon; and special friend, Pat Lafferty.Everlasting thanks to Dot, Maryann, and Jane for their love and support. He will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him.Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 22nd at 12 Noon at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE. Visitation will be from 11 am-12 pm. Interment will follow in Old Drawyers Cemetery, Middletown, DE.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Odessa Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 81, Odessa, DE 19730.
